  • Machine Tool Technology 1005 & 1035 — Blueprint Reading I & II

    1005 — Blueprint Reading I
    Covers the interpretation of basic manufacturing and fabrication drawings, terminology, or orthographic projection, sectional views, dimensions, tolerances, symbols and drawing standards.

    1035 — Blueprint Reading II
    Continues a review of basic shop blueprint interpretation, provides interpretation of complex manufacturing and fabrication drawings including sectional views, tolerances and allowances, surface texture and assembly drawings.

    Student Competencies

    Upon successful completion of this course the student should be able to identify and interpret the following:

    1. basic linework, title blocks, notations, dimensions, and tolerances.
    2. revolved and removed sections.
    3. complex manufacturing symbols and special features.
    4. primary and secondary auxiliary views.
    5. complex sectional views.
    6. shop working drawings and written notes.
    7. assembly drawings and bill of materials.
    8. complex welding symbols.
    9. supplementary welding symbols.
    10. structural drawings.
    11. basic sheet metal development drawings.

  • Photonics 1010 — Introduction to Fiber Optics

    This course presents optical wave-guides and fibers as well as fiber optics telecommunication. The course covers basic fiber optics components and active devices such as detectors for fiber optic systems, isolators, attenuators, circulators, couplers, cables, connectors, switches, pump lasers, transmission systems, repeaters and electrical/optical conversion.
