1. Just installed Ubuntu – on my laptop’s hard drive as a side-by-side dual-boot (with Windows Vista). Had to “settle” for Ubuntu 10.04, as I installed 10.10 (yesterday) and 11.04 on a 16 GB flash drive, but they wouldn’t boot up the laptop. AGH. Looks like I’ll have to install 11.04 on the same 4 GB flash drive that I had 10.04 installed on.

2. Jumpstarted my 2001 Altima today, after putting the new rim on. Took it for a test drive down the block back – it ran well (needs an oil change ASAP!). Still, I didn’t let it run long enough to fully charge the battery – it didn’t re-start after the test drive and I turned it off.
3. The first REAL rain of this year’s “moonsoon” season in New Mexico hit here in Albuquerque tonight at about 8:45 PM. One more thing to like about laptops: you can keep going for a while when the power goes out – just pull the power cord out and run off the battery. The battery on this one (Toshiba Satellite c. 2009) is good for about three hours.
4. I’m really starting to like this Linux install. It’s way faster than Windows Vista, especially in startup and shutdown time. It does take a little getting used to after you’ve been a Windows user for years and years, though.
5. Had two blackouts tonight – one at around 8:45 PM for a minute, and the second at around 9:35 PM. The second one lasted for about 45 minutes.
6. This looks useful – Drop Stop – I’m ALWAYS dropping stuff (pens, coins, French fries, my cell phone) down those gaps.

2. 1400 hours – had a UH-1x owned by the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office (?) circling overhead at 150-200 feet for about 10-15 minutes.
