@ Capulin Coffee – “Hi Mike, Is not tolerance a sign of a civilized culture… coming from the root of being civil?”
I have no problems being civil towards others. How was my point above –

– in any way “uncivil” ?
Anyway, I’m with Mark et al here – I have no problem with your personal choice to not own weapons. All I ask in return is that you respect my personal choice to own weapons.

“Do nations have ‘property rights?’”
No – nations don’t have any rights at all, they have specific powers delegated to them by their consenting constituents. Only individuals have rights.
“and if so, don’t borders define the limits of a country’s ‘property’?”
Borders, at best, serve as barriers keeping the various insanities, idiocies and evils of a particular group calling themselves a “government” from running hog-wild all over the world.
For those that feel that their lives and the lives of others aren’t regulated and taxed enough, I would suggest joining the Democrats and Republicans. I’ll leave discussions on how big to grow the State to them. Libertarians have a hard enough time as it is.

“One of the stated constitutional duties of the government is to ‘provide for the common defense’. Defend what? The borders for a start and ultimately the lives and property of its citizens.”
And look at what a great job the government is doing in carrying out that ultimate mission of defending our lives and properties.
How many more interior checkpoints do we need that are 20, 30, 50 miles from the actual border, where everyone, regardless of actual citizenship, is subject to search and seizure?
Wouldn’t it be more conducive to liberty to shut down the welfare state, shut down the drug war and get rid of as many regulations on business as possible? How about a non-interventionist foreign policy? Full enforcement of the Second Amendment, as written, to take care of criminals and terrorists?
