Looking through the Roundhouse archives, I found that then-State Senator Joe Carraro (R) was the one who sponsored the 300-400K driving-while-drowsy study year after year.

And Janice Arnold-Jones was one of the ones sponsoring “emergency” bills to fund public schools, community centers and such five, ten years down the road.

What most of the Republicans and Democrats always forget is the quote from Lord Acton, usually paraphrased as “Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. All great men are bad men.”

I cite as examples the previous postings by “Cyberwiz,” Daniel Metcalf and “justthefax” (to name a few) where they made excuses for Mitt Romney, Heather Wilson and George Bush after I pointed out how those elected officials had expanded the scope, reach and expense of government.

Yep, given that cops are drawn from the body public.

Still, if they’re going to enforce rules against the rest of us for this same sort of behavior, then it behooves them to lead by example and not do it themselves. Otherwise, they’re the occupying forces that Jefferson et al wrote about in the Declaration of Independence:

He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation:
For Quartering large bodies of armed troops among us:
For protecting them, by a mock Trial, from punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States:

      [SNIP (me)]

He has abdicated Government here, by declaring us out of his Protection and waging War against us.

Otherwise, they’re the occupying forces that the Founders were attempting to prevent getting a foothold here when they wrote the Third Amendment.

    5. Re: A Challenge to Republican Candidates

I’m not upset per se with Janice. Nor do I have any specific gripe with Lujan-Grisham. Where the Congressional race is concerned, I’m leaning towards Janice at present. That could change if she gets stupid and pulls a trick out of the Wilson / Romney hat (stumping for something like Medicare Part D or a GOP version of Obamacare).

Still, I’d like to know how Janice would answer the challenges I posed when I started this topic.

As for Janice being a member of this site, I think Carraro is, as well. I guess they don’t check in as much as others do?

By the way, I fully encourage anyone reading this (members of this site anyone else) to forward to any Republican candidates that you know of – and any Democrat, Green, Libertarian, etc., candidates, as well.

I know that feeling. And so we farm our resumes out  . . .

    7. Re: A Challenge to Republican Candidates

I won’t vote for Grisham, but if Janice starts enthusiastically stumping for Romney or Wilson, I probably won’t vote for her either. I’ll “vote the air” by not voting for anyone in that race.

      For what it’s worth, I haven’t called myself a “Conservative” since 1993.

If those is supposed to be some kind of threat, all I can say is BRING IT ON.

I will STILL show my face as “Tea Party,” though. Every time I can do so, I will.

There most likely weren’t many Libertarians at the 2008 GOPNM convention, as they wouldn’t have been eligible to vote on whatever business that was taking place. Now there were probably some small-l libertarians amongst the Ron Paul group present.

From what I’ve heard about that event in 2008, Allen Weh was all set to hand the GOPNM to John McCain, lock, stock and barrel. When some of the Ron Paul bunch objected, Weh gavelled them down, saying “It’s not Robert’s Rules that hold sway here, but the pleasure of the Chair.” One of those same Ron Paul people told me at the April 2010 GOP gubernatorial debate at UNM that one of the Weh people threatened to “kick his ass” over something written on the ground in chalk about Weh.

So we’ve got people in the GOP behaving like SEIU thugs. Glad I left the GOP when I did.

If you’re stumping for Wilson or Romney, you ARE “riding that Big R train” – own up to it and be proud about it.

So you’re OK with the train being headed straight to Marxville and Keynestown, just so long as it’s got that Almighty Big R painted on the side?

In five years, you’ll be defending ObamaCare after Romney makes it his own at the federal level, and you know it. He hasn’t even secured the GOP nomination yet, and already his transition team is talking about implementing the state-level “health-care exchanges.”

Should Romney and Wilson win their races and proceed to make ObamaCare into RomneyCare Part II, we’ll see who’s calling whom “Conservative” afterwards.

For what it’s worth, if Johnson (or any other LPNM candidate) was to suddenly declare support for anything resembling ObamaCare, what you’re seeing from me here toward Romney and Wilson is NOTHING compared to what that person would get from me.

    8. Re: A Challenge to Republican Candidates

Hell, maybe Janice will point this out to Monty and the rest of the GOPNM . . .

You know, if either Ron Paul or Gary Johnson was slated to be the GOP nominee for 2012, and Bill English or Greg Sowards had been nominated for U.S. Senate in New Mexico, I wouldn’t be typing so much here.

Maybe their idea is to kill off everyone who doesn’t love us – similar to the Soviet strategy in Afghanistan from 1979 to 1989. That would make sense – after all, the interventionists got their intellectual chops from Woodrow Wilson and Franklin D. Roosevelt. Some even say they got their stuff from Lenin or Trotsky:

    1. Re: GOP DELEGATES SUE TO BE FREE FROM ROMNEY

So you admit that Heather and Mittens suck as candidates? Oh, this is gonna be fun . . .

Who (or more importantly WHAT) is really “THE ENEMY !!!!” in this situation?

I think that I spelled out quite concisely what the real problem is previously.

The truth is that Slick Willard and Heather aren’t going to much (if anything at all!) to reverse the current trends of bigger, more intrusive, more expensive government, compounded by an ever-weakening “dollar”. The “best” that Mittens and Heather will do is slow the downslide of America a little bit.

Heather and Mittens aren’t my ANY sort of candidates. GET OVER THAT.

“Ron Paul cashed it in when he did the math– he’ll get a seat at the Convention table. He still has an opportunity to make things happen.”
“He’s respected by many in the party, and he’ll have his say.”

This is RNC-speak for “OK, all you Paul voters, RLCers, small-l libertarians, thank you for your time and effort. The whole lot of you can go bunch up in the corners, sit and spin. When we need your money or votes, we’ll let you know.”

As for calling Heather a “Commie,” it’s closer to the truth than what her supporters put out. Keep it up, Colonel!

So changing out one sock-puppet (Obama) for another (Mittens) is going to put America back on course?

How exactly are you going to get better candidates from the likes of Jay McClesky, Monty Newman and Reince Preibus when in the end, you end up supporting the lousy crapbirds running this year? What’s their incentive to provide better offerings? The only way you’ll get better candidates from the machine types is to let them know that you’re not going to automatically support whatever losers they puke up just because those losers have the letter “R” after their names as opposed to other losers with a “D” after their names. And the only way to get that message across to McClesky, Newman and Priebus is for those lousy candidates to LOSE their races, and lose big.

    2. Re: GOP DELEGATES SUE TO BE FREE FROM ROMNEY

Here’s what I wrote previously about the real problem:

Defeating Obama is one thing. Defeating the systems and networks that put people like Obama in place is the more important mission. Romney is nothing resembling a good standard-bearer for this – the people who are backing the Romney campaign are the same sorts of people who make the Obama Administration possible.

Until the premises that underline this mess (something for nothing, might makes right, etc.) are replaced by the premises embodied in the U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights and Declaration of Independence, all of this Republican-vs.-Democrat schtick is nothing more than an expensive dog-and-pony show.

For starters, both the Republican and Democrat parties can offer candidates who not only stick to the U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights and Declaration of Independence in their platforms, but also keep their promises and lead by example.

Does anyone here realistically see Romney or Obama suddenly seeing the light on that?

If so, which bridge over the Rio Grande would you like to buy from me?

Anyone here care to offer up a list of parts of the U.S. Code of which that little Ms. “Small-Government” “Fiscally-Restrained” Heather Wilson sponsored repeals during her tenure in the U.S. Congress (1998 – 2008)?

      <sarcasm>I’m sure it’s a long list.</sarcasm>

And if you want to insist that Johnson is inferior to Mittens . . . let’s see:

      • Johnson kept New Mexico in the black for eight years without any significant tax hikes, as opposed to Mittens’ hikes on “fees” in Massachusetts.
      • Johnson has been a stalwart supporter of the Second Amendment – hasn’t flip-flopped a bit. See also here and here.
      • Johnson NEVER engineered a state-sponsored takeover of health-care delivery like RomneyCare.

So far, the main thing “against” both Johnson and Barrie is that neither one of them has the all-important “R” after their names. So forget trivial stuff like principles, premises, the things they say, the track records of those who have held office before – what really matters is whether or not they have that “R” – correct?

    3. Re: GOP DELEGATES SUE TO BE FREE FROM ROMNEY

“And much as I agree the system needs a complete overhaul, it simply ain’t gonna happen overnight.”

It’s not going to happen AT ALL with people like Wilson and Romney. I’d say that they’re like the little Dutch boy with his finger in the dike, only this time it’s Hurricane Katrina and the water is almost coming over the top of the levee.

The big difference is that at least the boy with his finger in the hole was trying to STOP an impending disaster. In contrast, Wilson and Romney have made the hole bigger in the past (Medicare Part D on Heather’s part, Romneycare on Mittens’), and they show ZERO true indication of changing their ways in the future.

If we elect people who act like RINOs, then it’s our job to show them the light. And the door.

Keeping them from getting elected in the first place is much, much easier. Hence a good bit of my opposition to Wilson and Romney.

Once they’re in office, incumbency makes it a whole lot harder to get rid of them. For starters, look at all of the no-charge media that incumbents get – the media rush to cover their every utterance, they get taxpayer-paid no-charge mailings as part of their “keeping in touch with their constituents,” local businesses want to have them stop by for special events, etc., etc. – so much that they have to either leave office voluntarily, get convicted of a crime, or screw up really bad (think Michael or Anthony Weiner).

Would it be easier to turn HineyLicker, Grisham, and Obysmal ….. OR….. Wilson and Romney into Conservtives ?????

Once they’re in, they’re IN. It’s a whole lot easier to put someone in office who passes muster before being elected than to change someone who’s already in office.

Not only that, but the party-machine people who help put them in office – Monty Newman and Jay McClesky for the GOP, Javier Gonzales et al for the Democrats – don’t seem to care one bit if the people they help get there turn out to bad apples, just so long as they have the “correct” partisan affiliation. The first concern of the machine types after self-preservation is most likely maintaining and growing the machine – whether or not the chosen public-arena spotholder is good for the rest of us (as in actually supporting limited government, fiscal restraint and individual rights) comes in third place at best.

Which I hope we can agree on is the defeat of the Obama administration and all of its ilk. To do that as I originally stated to the Colonel is to focus our attention on the defeat and become one cohesive unit.

It is not. All of this may be true, however, as the old saying goes …”divided we fall”. Just as Colonet Cunningham knows, if the enemy can divide our forces, they will overcome us, even with a smaller band of fighters. And this time we won’t be picking ourselves up to fight again. The time is short between now and November, if we who believe in America and it’s traditional values believe America is on a downhill slide due to policies designed to destroy America from within and don’t pull ourselves together, we will fall and fall hard.

The small minority have now become the loud and aggressive majority…because the silent majority remained silent.

Remember NOT voting is the same as voting…(see above).

The Great White Obama should drop out of the race because he’ll take votes away from Gary Johnson.

    3. Re: Don’t Tread

      Just noticed this here now.

Hey Cyberwiz – it’s probably NOT a good idea to use the phrase “Bill of Rights Enforcement” and associated images in support of Mitt Romney.

      L. Neil Smith, who created it in 1998, held his nose and supported Ron Paul in this election season. While Neil MIGHT be willing to hold his nose to support Gary Johnson, he’s got as much love for Romney as I do, maybe less.
