  • True TEA Party Choices for the NM Races

    Current mood: cynical

For those that truly support the Tea Party’s professed values of individual rights, fiscal restraint, Constitutionally-limited government, there’s ONE presidential candidate who is with you – who was with you for eight years as as a Governor – Gary Johnson.

Likewise, there’s a candidate who stands with you for U.S. Senate – Jon Barrie.

Neither one of these gentlemen have used gun owners or LGBT folk (or members of any other “marginal” group) as political soccer balls to be kicked around when politically expedient.

Neither one of these gentlemen have sought to increase the expense and intrusiveness of government over the private sector, as both have been successful in that same private sector

Voting for anyone either than Johnson or Barrie is a vote against gun owners.

Voting for anyone either than Johnson or Barrie is a vote to federalize health-care delivery.

Voting for anyone either than Johnson or Barrie is a vote for bigger, more expensive, more intrusive government.

Voting for anyone either than Johnson or Barrie is a wasted vote.

It looks like the results of a Stateside gun turn-in – most of the guns pictured look like they were non-functional before being turned in.

    2. Re: Gene’s Nickle: A Different Perspective

<sarcasm>And of course we all know that Mitt Romney is a hard-core laissez-faire free-market advocate who will get rid of Obamacare, stand up for the Second Amendment, end the mercantilist bailouts and BS “stimulus” bouts of free-for-all spending . . . .</sarcasm>

Anyone who says that they take Slick Willard seriously as a laissez-faire free-market advocate is either delusional, lying through their teeth, or ignorant of Romney’s track record in the political arena.

Of course Romney is going to embrace some form of Obamacare – Obamacare is a copy-and-paste job from the package that Romney was an active player in putting together while he was governor of Massachusetts. Jon Gruber, the MIT economics professor who was a key part of the bunch who did the legwork and math for Romney, moved on to help the Obama Administration put together Obamacare. Gruber says there’s no significant difference between Romneycare and Obamacare:

“Basically, they’re the same f—ing bill.”

“He just can’t have his cake and eat it too. Basically, you know it’s the same bill. He can try to draw distinctions and stuff, but he’s just lying.”

Quoted from the New York Daily News: “Ex-Romney adviser on Obamacare, Romneycare: ‘same f—ing bill’” –click here

Gruber is, like Romney, nothing resembling a free-market advocate:

“You get rid of the mandate, it just becomes a big government expenditure, which will cover a bunch of people, and that’s great, and I’m all for spending money to do that. Then it just becomes standard old, ‘expand health care with the public money,’ nothing really innovative anymore.”

Quoted from Capital New York: “Architect of Obama’s health care plan fears a ‘political’ decision by the Supreme Court, says Romney’s lying” – click here

The above quote begs the question that if Romney really is or was an advocate of the free market, why did he solicit any sort of policy advice concerning health care from Gruber in the first place?

Put a sign on my lawn for the guy who signed off on Obamacare at the state level in Massachusetts? No thanks!

Just think of how much you’ll save on health care when Romney makes Obamacare into Romneycare Part 2 . . . .

It wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if those comments were written by actual living persons. I’ve met too many people like this and read comments by many more on the internet.

    8. Re: US Military Reveals Coup Plan To Topple Obama – well planned propaganda!

Regardless of whether this article is true, I see a round of “investigations” from Panetta, Holder and Napolitano (Janet, NOT Andrew!) that will make the proverbial witch hunt look like a picnic.

  • Krueger Lacks True Common Sense (and Balance)

    Current mood: cynical

This was originally posted as a letter to the editor to The Albuquerque Journal on Monday, 30 July 2012.

In her “Up Front” column “Add Common Sense to Gun Law Arsenal” from 27 July, Joline Gutierrez Krueger attempts to stand atop the dead and injured of the Aurora movie shooting. The sad part is that in attempting just that, she stumbles from lack of balance – and common sense.

For example, she insinuates that higher crime rates in New Mexico are due to lenient gun laws (no supporting data was provided) – what does she say to those of us who say that the crime rate is due more to the something-for-nothing welfare state and Drug Prohibition?

What about Vermont, Alaska, Arizona and Wyoming, where people can carry concealed weapons without a permit? Why is it that crime rates per capita are lower in those states than in states with more restrictive gun laws?

She goes on to parrot a comment from Obama, who never understood the true purpose of the Second Amendment:

“I – like most Americans – believe that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual the right to bear arms . . . . But I also believe that a lot of gun owners would agree that AK-47s belong in the hands of soldiers and not in the hands of crooks. They belong on the battlefield of war, not on the streets of our cities.”

Remember that when Obama refers to guns “on the streets of our cities,” he’s really talking about the ones in your private possession. In the end, it doesn’t matter to him whether you’ve committed any sort of violent act or not.

When they wrote the Constitution and Bill of rights, both the Federalists and Anti-Federalists commented explicitly that they wanted the civilian population to have access to the military arms of the day. Back then, that was muzzle-loading flintlocks. Now it’s the Glock pistol, the AK-47, the M4 carbine, the MP-5 subgun and the MP7A1 PDW.

In much the same sense, the Founders never envisioned radio, television and the internet when they wrote the First Amendment, allegedly guaranteeing our rights to free speech and freedom of the press that Krueger uses for these columns. Should Krueger surrender her “assault keyboard” lest she write something that incites someone to commit a violent act? After all, the pen is mightier than the sword.

Finally, if Krueger’s point – “guns cause crime” – were true, then why don’t we hear about bloodbaths of the kind we saw in Aurora, at Fort Hood and Virginia Tech at gun shows and shooting ranges? Why don’t we see hunters killing each other over that perfect tree stand or duck blind?

    1. Posted to Facebook –

Tom Mahon, Jon Barrie and I had a great time hanging out with Gary Earl Johnson today.

Gary gave his presentation, then answered audience questions until about 9 AM, took a few pictures, etc. I finally got the chance to hand off that copy of Down With Power to him (after the speech).

Good article, aside from the references to The Great White Obama (Romney).

Let the GOP celebrate and defend this gun-banning two-faced mercantilist. Libertarians have better things to do, like sticking up for true capitalism.

    3. Posted to Wayne Allyn Root’s Facebook Wall —Hey, Wayne – let’s talk about Gary Johnson instead of Slick Willard. For example, we had an event with Johnson this morning:
