    1. Re: Israel-Palestine
You put the word unguided in quotes as though my usage of the word was unwarranted. The stabilization fins that Hamas attaches to each of the Qassam series rockets with don’t count as a guidance system — the warhead rockets of the RPG-7 series (picture), RPG-26 and M72 LAW (picture) also all have such fins, but aren’t considered “guided” by anyone in the know.

In the end, whether or not the missiles are guided or not doesn’t really matter — the fact remains that Hamas, Fatah, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, etc., are using them against Israeli civilians, a clear violation of the Laws of War, as well as an offense against common decency. That’s when these groups aren’t pulling triggers against each other. And Israel has had its share of bad moments, as well — the Cave of the Patriarchs massacre wasn’t something that I’d sign off on. Nor was the Deir Yassin Massacre.

As for tax “dollars” (really Federal Reserve Notes or FRNs) being used, I find it equally offensive that a Palestinian American would be taxed to provide foreign aid to Israel (or a Jewish American taxed to provide such aid to Israel’s enemies) as an Operation Rescue member being taxed to subsidize abortions, or a gun owner being taxed to fund the F-Troop.

    1. Re: Israel-Palestine
Let’s get one thing straight right now — Hamas isn’t a group for those who are into nonviolent civil disobedience. The use of unguided Qassam rockets against Israeli civilian areas should tell you that they aren’t the Good Guys that the “lefties” portray them as:

It’s also been said that more Palestinians have been killed by Hamas than by the IDF:

    2. Re: Israel-Palestine
Or Congress could cut ALL foreign aid to EVERYONE (both civilian and military) — Israel, Egypt, etc. Then we could not only get that cash back as a tax return, but could return to the Washington / Jefferson Doctrine where foreign policy is concerned (paraphrased below):
Friendship and commerce with all; entangling alliances with none

    3. Re: Rail Runner Ridership Numbers Drop
Is it time to call for repealing the gross receipts tax surcharge that goes to subsidize fewer people riding this thing?

When was it ever NOT the time to call for that repeal, Jim?

    4. Re: Phantom Green Jobs
Those 600 green jobs must be in the 440 Congressional districts that Herr Obama & Co. invented out of thin air.

  • Back in the Saddle

    Current mood: happy

After two long years of being “off the air,” The Weekly Sedition returned to the Channel 27 schedule last night at 8 PM MST.

For our first night back, we kept it simple, as the Quote-Unquote staff had changed the equipment setup in Studio B. For example, the new character generator (CG) system, a “Video Titlemaster 2000,” takes a lot of getting used to. I’ll have to spend some time in the studio practicing with the new system, as I had gotten quite good with the old one.

As I was setting up the studio for the show, I noticed that Paul Gessing of the Rio Grande Foundation had arrived at the Channel 27 offices. No, he wasn’t there to be our guest, but to meet with the Coalition to Stop $30 Billion to Israel. Paul admitted that they’re “lefties”, but said that he’s got to be able to work with people he doesn’t see eye-to-eye with at times. Still, expect a “Swift Boat” campaign against Paul of the kind used against Adam Kokesh should he ever decide to run for public office, especially a federal office. Especially if he runs as a Republican.

What did we talk about on our return to the “airwaves” ? What we usually talk about — excessive public spending, regulations over the private sector, corruption of government officials, rights of the accused, rights (and duties) of the juror, among other things.

  • Truth, Lies and Cigarettes

    Current mood: pissed
“2 Truths & a Lie” from “The Truth”

    Guess the Lie!

    • Cigarettes are 100% safe and pose no health risks to smokers at all
    • Every 6.5 seconds, someone in the world dies from a smoking-related disease
    • Sunburns can cause wrinkles; so can cigarettes

Sneaky bastards, aren’t they — they put their preferred answer on top, and set the poll script to default to it.

    Here’s my version —

    Guess the Truth!
    • Smoking is a choice — just like drinking alcohol, smoking pot, crack, or meth, shooting up with heroin, speeding down the highway, rock-climbing, among other things.
    • Cigarettes fly around on their own, force themselves into smokers’ mouths, then self-ignite.
    • Tobacco companies force smokers to smoke, often by threatening smokers’ families with torturous, slow deaths.

Where will this (still-hypothetical) NFL team be housed? There are four arenas in Albuquerque (Tingley, University Stadium, The Pit, and Isotopes Park) and how much usage do they get? On top of that, the Convention Center in the Downtown area was used for a few Thunderbird games, and the Scorpions moved to Rio Rancho. Now the ABQ City Council wants a new indoor arena / events center in the Downtown area, next to the Convention Center.

If bringing ANY new sports team to town means any sort of tax hike, use of eminent domain, etc., count me OPPOSED.

I fully support encouraging the Venus Project to begin the terraforming of the planet Venus as soon as possible.

As for the “Resource-Based Economy,” it’s not really a new idea — they cribbed it from Star Trek and Arthur C. Clarke novels. Possibly some Blake’s 7 and Asimov novels, as well.

Salvador Allende tried in 1970 what the Venus Project / Zeitgeist Movement / RBEC advocates — real-time computer control of the economy. See the Wikipedia page for Project Cybersyn for more.

It’s not that we lack arenas and stadiums — we’ve got a surplus of them, the City Council wants to build another one, and they rarely bring decent acts into the ones that exist. Two of the best concerts I’ve seen in my life weren’t at any of these venues — Overkill at the Launchpad (23 Sept 2005) and W.A.S.P. at the Sunshine Theater (1 June 2006).

I’m more interested in concerts than sporting events, but I’m guessing the same sorts of factors come into play.
